HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., Oct. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Leland Little's Signature Auctions exemplified both strength and steady performance, beginning with the Fine Wine and Rare Spirits Auctions, which delivered outstanding results and demonstrated strong market demand. Building on that success, a highly attended preview event showcased the exceptional offerings featured in the renowned Signature Week sales. This distinguished lineup included auctions of Fine Art, Fine Jewelry, and Decorative Art, each achieving remarkably strong results and reinforcing the continued excellence of the series. In total, the Signature Week Auctions achieved just under $1.7M, a testament to the sustained interest and confidence amid collectors.
Among the highlights was Lot 3088 from the Fine Art Auction held on September 10th. A remarkable oil on canvas by Charles Sims, R.A., R.W.S. entitled The Land of Nod. This work, which depicts children drifting into the dream world of sleep, rose to a final price of $22,800 (all prices noted reflect a 20% Buyer's Premium). Also worth mentioning is Lot 3086 from the Fine Art Auction. Entitled La Plage, Les Régates by André Hambourg, this piece achieved a notable result, realizing $12,600.
Several pieces from the Fine Jewelry Auction, held on September 11th, commanded significant attention. Among them was Lot 4035, a platinum and diamond ring featuring a 5.06 carat cut-cornered square brilliant cut diamond, which achieved a final price of $20,400. Lot 4047, an antique platinum and diamond ring set with a 3.51 carat cushion brilliant cut diamond, praised for its whimsical design and condition, drew strong interest and sold for $16,200. Rounding out the highlights was Lot 4022, a striking platinum, gold, fancy color sapphire, and diamond ring, which realized $13,800 after active bidding.
Offerings from the Decorative Art Auction achieved impressive results. Lot 5081, the Limestone University Charleston Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Secretary with Bookcase, dating to the late 18th century and originating from the historic Limestone University, was the highlight of the sale. This exceptional piece of Southern furniture was accompanied by a signed essay from Bradford L. Rauschenberg, offering unique insight into its provenance and significance. As quoted by Bradford, "With the majority of furniture produced in Charleston being influenced by British design, the Germanic presence under the Pfeninger shop displays a high standard for Charleston production, this secretary with bookcase being an amazing survival of incredible Charleston Furniture." The lot attracted considerable interest, with competitive bidding from both internet and telephone participants driving the final price to an impressive $336,000. Marking a significant milestone in both in-house and market history for antique Southern furniture sold at auction.
"We were both proud and excited to represent the historic Limestone University Collection, which was highlighted by the important Charleston secretary. It achieved a record price within this furniture group for public sales." - Leland Little, President of Leland Little Auctions
Another highlight of note was Lot 5001 from the Decorative Art Auction: Blind Faith (Viktor Kee), Third Life by Richard MacDonald. This bronze drew considerable attention with its imaginative structure and concept. It exemplifies MacDonald's expansive vision and his devotion to capturing the spirit of circus performers and dancers. In the end, this extraordinary work achieved $9,000, confirming both its appeal and its value in the marketplace.
